JAPANESE UNIVERSITY TO BEGIN CLONING EXPERIMENTS
August 2, 1997
OSAKA (Kyodo) -- A group of researchers at Osaka's Kinki University will launch this year a program of experiments on cloning cows and pigs in a manner similar
to the technique used to clone the sheep ''Dolly'' in Britain, university
sources said Saturday.
The five-year program, with a yearly expenditure of some 100 million yen (some
$847,460), is aimed at helping to breed animals with stable characteristics, and
will be jointly overseen by the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry and
the Finance Ministry.
